Hello! We are two friendly, experienced English teachers from England (the UK). We have both been teaching English in Prague for many years, to individuals, groups, adults, and children. We teach conversational English, English for exams, Business English, and more. Lessons can be in-person or online. The price for all types of lessons is 500 CZK per 60 minutes.

About Me
Hi! My lessons are engaging and I try to make the less enjoyable aspects of learning a language (e.g. grammar) more fun! I always cater to a student's needs –
by thoroughly discussing the areas they need to improve on and the most effective way to do this. I believe it is very important for students to have the opportunity to speak.I love traveling and reading (fiction & non-fiction) and am particularly interested in history, science, gender/feminism, linguistics/culture, ecology/environment, I also love hiking (especially in the wilderness), going to film festivals and trying different kinds of cuisine (as well as beer and wine!). I've traveled widely in the Czech Republic, both for the hiking and for the architecture.
Experience
I have a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (Masters in Pedagogy) from the UK in addition to a
Trinity Cert TESOL (TEFL certificate) from Prague. I also have a BSc in Peace Studies and a Masters in International Relations. I have taught both individuals and groups, ranging from levels B1-C2 (*I do not teach levels A0-A2), I have taught for a variety of purposes - e.g. General English, Conversational English and English for Specific Purposes. On top of that I have prepared students for FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS (leading to success in these exams). I've also helped students prepare for presentations and interviews.
Lesson Style
I always try to use authentic materials, such as articles from the Guardian, videos from Ted Talks/Ted Ed/Youtube, books and lyrics. I also try to recommend: websites, apps, books (fiction & non-fiction), films/movies and TV series to my students, so they can do some self-study at home. I also give students homework, review grammar and vocab/phrases from previous lessons. English is my native language, so I'm familiar with all the nuances of the language. I have a very clear British accent. I am also very passionate about sharing a language and culture that I love. I can teach you online using any of the following platforms - Zoom/Google Meet/Skype/WhatsApp/Teams or in-person/face to face (at your home/office or in a quiet cafe).

I get very excited about Rahana's lessons. She always finds some topic that I like. She sometimes finds an article, sometimes a video and every lesson is different which I enjoy a lot. I can see that she tries hard to give me the best example when I ask her: " Can you give me another example where I can use this word?" We have lessons online and it´s so convenient! You don´t have to travel anywhere, sit at home, see her and talk to her. She gives me the feedback by writing comments on the screen. When the lesson is over I can read her notes again which is very helpful as I can refresh my memory anytime. :-) She really aims to cater to my needs by asking me what I´d prefer to do the next lesson. She knows it is important for me to speak and she gives me this opportunity as much as possible.

Rahana is an excellent lecturer, always ready, well tuned. Teaching is fun and the lecturer is always willing to solve current problems in English I need. Like most people, I have a problem with spoken English, but with Rahana this block drops off and you always switch to English and just talking and talking when you're surprised that it's the end of the lesson. Every week I look forward to the conversation lesson with Rahana. She always comes up with a change of dates when I do not have a regular hour. I certainly recommend!

Rahanu jsem oslovila s požadavkem konverzace v angličtině. Moje angličtina byla pokročilá, potřebovala jsem vylepšit jen její plynulost. Konverzace s Rahanou jsou zábavné, přestože se setkáváme už nějakou dobu, stále se učím novým slovíčkům a frázím. Díky tomu se při diskuzi v angličtině vyjadřuji přesněji, neváhám tolik jako dřív a moje angličtina je velice plynulá. Rahana je velmi vstřícný člověk, lze se jednoduše domluvit na změně termínu či místa lekce. Určitě doporučuji studentům, kteří si chtějí procvičit povídání o obyčejných věcěch i konverzaci na pokročilá témata.

About Me
Hello! Everyone has a different reason for wanting to learn English, and everyone has different needs when learning. Many people are afraid to speak English - they're afraid to make mistakes; often, they hated their English
lessons at school! I can help you to become more fluent and more confident when giving presentations, attending meetings, writing emails or letters, or just talking to friends in English. I'm interested in history, "nature" in general, hiking, travel, science and science fiction, magic realism, linguistics, music (Ipek Ipekcioglu, Bjork, aespa, classical, and more...), and autistic - neurotypical communication. Obviously, though, we can also talk about other things if you're not interested in these!
Experience
I have a Trinity Cert TESOL (TEFL certificate) and 13 years’ teaching experience (including 8 years in Prague). I’ve taught individuals and groups at all levels from Pre-Intermediate to Advanced/Proficiency, as well as exam preparation classes (FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS, TOEFL). I teach at a language school as well as at various companies in Prague, in addition to teaching private students. I have a background in linguistics (mainly syntax and phonology), which helps me to explain the intricacies of English grammar.
Lesson Style
I believe effective language learning can only happen when students feel relaxed, and when they are interested in the material. It is very important that students speak as much as possible during the lesson, and are not afraid to make mistakes! Making mistakes is normal when learning a language. Therefore, I try to make lessons fun and engaging. To do this, I conduct a needs analysis of each student during the first session; this allows me to discover exactly what each new student’s needs are, which areas they need to improve, and what topics they are interested in. Some students are afraid of grammar, but I try to present it in a fun way – so that you don’t actually realise you’re studying grammar until it’s too late!

I successfully passed the CAE exam with Michael's help, which was useful to me in my career. He also helps me with my students' English homework, since I'm an English teacher!! Michael is an excellent teacher - really, the best I've ever had. My fluency and my listening skills have improved enormously in the last six months. He's very easy to talk to, and is an interesting person too. He's able to engage you in conversation about a huge variety of topics, all the while making notes on the mistakes that you make. We've talked about everything from work and holiday plans to the meaning of life to childhood experiences to the universe to femininity vs masculinity...!! The lessons are very enjoyable.

Mým cílem bylo co nejvíc mluvit, což se mi na hodinách s Michaelem daří skvěle. Díky jeho rozhledu a ochotě je možné zabrousit do jakékoli oblasti, ze všeho dokáže vytvořit téma k hovoru, navíc zná velmi dobře české reálie. Konverzace je tak velmi přirozená, s možností zkoumat různorodou slovní zásobu. Vyhovuje mi i jeho způsob výuky, kdy během hovoru zaznamenává chyby, které pak na konci hodiny společně projdeme. Jeho zápis mi pak umožňuje se k problému vrátit, což by mi prosté opravení v průběhu hovoru nedalo. Můžu určitě doporučit.
